Villars, situated on a natural south facinge balcony in the heart of the Alpes Vaudoises, is a great holiday base for both winter and summer.
At an altitude of 1300 m, you can enjoy spectacular panoramic views extending from Lake Geneva to Mont-Blanc. It was one of the first resorts to attract British skiers in the 1960's, set in one of the few Swiss cantons which allowed foreginers to buy property.
The ski area is shared with Les Diablerets, a large village with links up to a glacier at 3000m.
In summer, there are over 300 km of marked hiking trails and 150 km of mountain bike trails, allowing you to explore the countryside and natural beauty of the area. Three high-altitude lakes and numerous alpine farms (serving breakfast cooked on wood fires and demonstrating cheese making) offer a unique experience to summer hikers. There is also a scenic 18 hole golf course at 1600m.
Villars' ski area incorporates the two smaller areas of Villars/Bretaye and Gryon and is also linked via the route over Le Meilleret with Les Diablerets. Altogether, this creates a skiing arena with 77 lifts and 220 km of ski slopes. In addition there are four snowparks, a snow kindergarten, 44 km of cross-country skiing trails, sledging runs and numerous winter walking routes – not to mention a lively après-ski scene. Those in need of relaxation can visit the amenities and wellness centres at the thermal baths in Lavey.
